So long, Farewell

On Sunday, January 19, 2014 Chuck and Shelene had their farewell.
Shelene spoke first and her topic was sacrifice.  She said, "Sacrifice is setting aside personal desires, giving up something good for something of much greater worth." She also read a line from the song, Praise to the Man, "sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven."

Chuck started his talk by saying he was grateful for a good wife who would serve a mission with him. He read a quote that said, "A missionary is someone who leaves their family for 2 years so that others can be with their families for eternity." He talked about some of the experiences they might have. He reminded everyone that even though he will be teaching the people of the Philippines, that it is the spirit that teaches and convinces of truth.

After church there was an open house at Clay and Jessica's.

Shelene with her parents and three brothers, Neil, Kevin, and Derek.

Called to serve

Chuck and Shelene opened their mission call  on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
They were called to serve in the Philippines, Cauayan Mission for 23 months.

They were shocked (anticipating a state-side mission), but very excited!
Shelene was very quiet as she processed it all. Chuck was more vocal, many times throughout the night saying, "The Philippines,...the Philippines?"
